No more album!
Remember our album? Well, we have decided not to release it anymore :p ….. why? Because of Leona Lewis…. You might ask, "What has that to do with her?". Everything! She’s such a strong competitor we’d better not humiliate ourselves :p We would be beaten hands down!
I first heard of Leona Lewis last month when I was in Scotland. I still remember that day. My friends and I were travelling in a car, sightseeing and listening to a local radio station. Then suddenly, ‘Bleeding Love’ (Leona’s chart-topping single) was played. It was quite catchy and my friends were singing along to it. I sang along too :p (well, the chorus was quite simple). My friend started to comment on how good Leona Lewis was and then suddenly turned to me for my opinion. And I was like, Leona who? I’d never heard of her prior to that (I seldom listen to English radio station anymore ever since my next-door neighbour’s car window was smashed and his car cd-player stolen right in front of his house! And so now I always take out my cd-cum-mp3 player but I always forget to put it back on whenever I start driving, so… well, I do have a radio in my room, but for the past two years, I mostly listened to local chinese radio station…). Ooops! I have side-tracked again :p
Anyway, I was told that Leona Lewis was the winner of The X Factor. The what factor? Again, I’d never heard of it. I had thought that it had somethng to do with Fear Factor :p If you asked me about American Idol, then yes I know what it’s all about (I’ve been watching since season 3!)… but The X Factor was something new to me. So my friend explained that it’s a popular singing competition in the UK. Guess who’s in the panel of judges? None other than Simon Cowell himself :p Not sure if the show is aired in Malaysia (at least not on the free channels, I would have known if it is :p)….
I have actually forgot that episode until this morning. I was still in the I-like-David-Cook’s-performance mood that I re-watched on YouTube some of his previous performances and episodes that I’ve missed. Anyway, one video led to another (they like to promote other related videos), and a list of Leona Lewis X-factor-performance videos were displayed on the monitor screen. The titles of the songs she chose to sing were mostly my favourites. And before I knew it, I have watched (I think) all of her live performances on the X Factor. I just could not stop myself. She’s that good! Incredible! Brilliant! Great! Oh uh, did I sound like Simon now? :p Anyway, he’s really different when he’s on The X Factor. All praises for Leona and none of the critics he’s famous for in American Idol (due to different cultures? Or just some publicity stunts?). He even gave her a standing ovation after a few of her performances! Probably because he’s her mentor in that show :p Not sure how he treated other contestants in the show though.
Leona is like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, etc all roll into one. Not exaggerating. But she can ’screech’ (I mean that in a positive way :p) like Mariah, hit those high notes like Celine, has a big voice like Whitney, a strong vocal like Christina, and she projects the emotion of the songs she sings very well…. and all in one whole package called Leona Lewis! And she has a sweet personality too. Shy and humble.
I also watched her guest performance on the American Idol result show (missed that on TV last time). She was still great post-X-Factor. But of course now that she’s a star, her hair and make-up were different during her appearance in that show. And she has a star quality never seen before. Well, hopefully, she would keep both feet firmly on the ground. Again, it’s not just about the talent, but also a good personality (humble, kind…). And as long as she has that, she got a fan in me.
